When Russell and I got married, the one of the gifts I was most excited about receiving was a breadmaker.  Weird, I know.  I was adventurous the first time I used it and decided to make my favorite bread, cinnamon raisin.  The directions said to add the raisins either at the beginning or when the fruit/nut timer went off...I remember being busy that day and figured I would just add them at the beginning to not have to worry about it later.  Fast forward 3 hours and we had a beautiful loaf of bread, without raisins as the kneading process had beat them to smithereens (spelling?). 

Eight years later, I finally got over the distraught of that failure and decided to make another loaf.  This time I used the basic introduction recipe for white bread....

It was a success and very tasty!  After feeling pretty good about my domestic abilities (which I say tongue-in-cheek as I used a machine and not my hands to knead and shape the dough), I decided to tackle the cinnamon raisin bread again.  This time I waited until after the fruit buzzer went off to add the raisins.  However, after reading the directions again, I think I will add the raisins right before the buzzer goes off at the end of the last kneading cycle....I'll let the pictures explain why....

There are a few raisins inside the bread, which was still very tasty! 

Rainy days

Last week when we got a couple inches of rain in less than 48 hours and we were under a self-imposed house arrest (not my idea of fun to get out in heavy rain with strong winds with a toddler unless absolutely necessary), we spent our time:

1. Looking out the window, thankful for the rain but going a little stir crazy....

2. Hence, the hiding behind the curtain!  Peek-a-boo is one of Cole's favorite games and I wanted to document his pudgy little feet and cankles before they disappear forever into skinny chicken ankles like his mama.

3. Playing like I work for National Geographic and photographing our angry hummingbirds (or burd or tweettweet as the kid calls them).  The males are very territorial and chase each other around all day while the females take it easy at the feeder and drink sugar water (I think I want to be a hummingbird in my next life).  These are my favorite shots of these fascinating little birds!



Backwards

Here are some recent pictures of our son doing things backwards. Picture 1:  I prefer to store my cookware in the cabinet whereas he thinks everything looks better on the floor!  It was pretty impressive watching him though because he actually lifted that heavy stockpot out with his little muscles like it was nothing!

Picture 2: Well, this one kind of speaks for itself.  Every evening when the poor dog crawls into his kennel, Cole thinks he needs to go night night in there too.  Cole finds this hilarious and fun while the dog is going to need some psychological treatment:)

Labor Day 2010

Labor Day weekend Cole and I went to my grandparents to see the newest addition to our family, my cousin's baby Lucy.  I have been wanting to see her and the new parents since she was born about 2 months ago but travelling to Austin and back in a day with my child would not be pleasant so we were excited they made the trip to Houston to introduce her to everyone.  Isn't she a cutie!?

Some of my other cousins were there as well, including Cole's birthday twin (they were born about 4 hours apart).  Cole walked right up to him when he got there and they held hands and then, being new walkers/standers, fell on to their bottoms:)  I can't believe in 6 months there will be 2 more great grandbabies for a total of 11!

Four!

Cole received some golf clubs for his birthday that he has played with a little (Russell really likes them!) until now....now that he can walk, he carries a club all over the house with him!  I was going to come up with something witty to say like the "Next Tiger Woods minus the....." since he is the world's best golfer but couldn't think of anything nice to put at the end and thought I would leave it up to the readers imagination:)  I just hope he gets his daddy golfing skills and not his mommy's ability to hit a chunk of earth when she totally misses the ball!

Fun in the air conditioning

Last week we meet some of our friends for some fun in the sun air conditioning at the local children's museum.  Cole enjoyed our first visit a month ago but definitely got to play more now that he can walk!  And of course I enjoy having somewhere safe where he can dispense some energy while I get to chat with my friend!  I apologize for the brightness of some of these pictures...need to work with the flash or something on the camera...
