Sweet boy

I meant to mention in yesterday's post that June 18th was an extra wonderful day for my family because my cousin Krystal had a handsome little man, Holden, that same morning (you can see pics on her Garza Gazette blog to the right). It is so fun knowing they will grow up sharing the same birthday. Well, we are learning more and more everyday about our sweet boy. He loves to cuddle, he makes a sweet cooing sound after he gets really angry (turns bright red in the process), he is really strong (already pushes his head back to look at you), he hates baths (Russell says its because boys like to be dirty:), and he can pee about 6 inches into the air if left uncovered during a diaper change. I have heard from friends and family about explosive diapers and little boys with sprinkler systems and we had our first experience with both this afternoon. We will definitely pick up the speed of diaper changes in the future and have become even more thankful for all the diapers we receieved!

Home at last!

Sorry for the delay in posting but the last few days have included a lot of firsts. We checked into the hospital Wednesday night where I had my first IV and neither Russell or I slept much due to excitement and lack of comfort of the hospital beds. The induction started at 4 am and I was thinking "this isn't so bad" until late in the morning when the whammy's started coming about a minute apart. I'm not sure who all knew this but I was really wanting a natural birth (no drugs) because I'm weird like that and hate needles but decided that was for the birds after having those close contractions for two hours. After the epidural, I dilated quickly and pushing began. Again, being weird, I wanted to be the best pusher ever and evidently I did a pretty good job because our 10 lb 9 oz boy, Cole William, entered the world at 1:53 pm on June 18 after 20 minutes of pushing. We knew he was going to be big but neither us or our doctor thought he would be that big! I know I am biased, but he is absolutely perfect and a very healthy boy. We had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days because I tore in 4 places and lost some blood but a few pints of blood and some stitches later, we are at home and doing well. I am extremely thankful for Nana (my mom) helping us out and giving us some helpful hints. Also thank you to everyone for prayers, well wishes and cute blue outfits! I will try to be more frequent with posts now that I am at home. Now, everyone thinks he looks like me, but I think the last two pictures will prove he's going to be a mini-Russell:)

Here we go!

Well, I had my 41 1/2 week appointment this afternoon and the baby and I looked good. However, my doctor doesn't like patients to go past 42 weeks because there are so many risks to mom and baby so she scheduled a time to be induced...tonight! We go in at 9 pm to get hooked up to IV and antibiotics and then they will start the inducing medication around 4 am. Our doctor said we should have a baby by noon tomorrow! We will update the blog as soon as we can with pictures of our baby!

Impatience...

This is my first attempt at blogging so here it goes. We decided to create this blog as we really enjoy staying in touch with several of our family and friends through their blogs and wanted to be able to update everyone on the impending arrival of our little one. I started having contractions May 31st and we really thought we were going to have a baby soon. But one week later and now one day past my due date, the baby still has not arrived. Russell thinks it is because he/she is running late like me and I think it is because he/she is stubborn like him. I guess we will have to wait and see what the baby's personality is like when it is older to know for sure! We go back to the doctor on the 17th and will schedule a time to be induced if the baby hasn't made it's grand entrance into the world yet. I am already 3 cm so I am really hoping to not be induced. I am walking a lot and we are trying hard to be patient but we are anxious to meet this baby! We will post another update if I go into labor or after the next appointment, whichever comes first.
