Biter biscuit scare

Everyone keeps asking me if I have given Cole in teething biscuits yet like it is some rite of passage for older infants. So many people said their babies loved them so last weekend I decided to quit being paranoid and let him have one. Here are pictures from the first few minutes of him gnawing on it and he seemed to like it. Evidently so because he bit off a big piece in less than 5 minutes! He choked and gave me a heart attack but luckily it dissolved and he swallowed it. I crammed what was left in one of those mesh feeders but he wasn't as interested then. I would love to give him something to chew on so does anyone else know of anything else that won't break apart so quickly?

Bluebonnets and birds

Disclaimer: This a miscellaneous blog of some pictures I have been wanting to blog about and nothing of true importance..not that any news on here is ever world changing anyways:)

Oh the elusive bluebonnet pictures. We (meaning me and my sister-in-law) finally found what we thought was a good time to go take bluebonnet pictures two weekends ago between naps and tax season (she is an accountant). Cole and I were grumpy due to his choice to not take an afternoon nap that day but the lighting looked good and most of the bluebonnets were starting to set seed so we needed to move fast. We drove down the road from our house and finally found an area that was still blue and hadn't been too trampled by previous picture-takers. Also, it had a field behind it with a barbed wire fence that I thought would make a nice backdrop. As luck would have it, as soon as we got out of the car it started to sprinkle so I just snapped a few pictures (without adjusting my camera) before we loaded back in the car. Can you say 2 overexposed, annoyed children were involved in this photo shoot? I think it is hilarious how they both have the "I can't believe you have me out here in the rain to take pictures in the potentially snake/ant/tick infested roadside vegetation!"

The next few pictures show I know how to use my camera every-once-in-awhile. Our neighbors budding tree was the local breakfast hangout for a group of cedar waxwings (they have red waxy tips on their wings). Evidently the buds on that tree were extra tasty as they would turn upside down to eat them.

And here is the last random picture showing of most of our teethies. I love this picture because of his smile and how he looks like his Dada even more in a Polo shirt and khaki cargo pants!

10 months old

Sunday Cole turned 10 months old...seriously, who is pushing the fast forward button?! Since last month, Cole has been waving (intermittently) hi and bye, pulling up on everything (other small children, the dog, etc.), starting to cruise on furniture, and crawling at greater speeds (usually towards the dog bowl or towards the back door when I let Baxter out).

He still has his first ear infection which is probably the result of him spitting out most of his antibiotic when we put it in his mouth so he is getting antibiotic shots (ouch!) over the next few days to hopefully knock it out. Thankfully he doesn't seem to be in much pain from the gunk in his ears except he has been waking more at night...not sure if it is ear pain, teething (have 6 total!) or the fact that he doesn't want to make time to eat during the day. He still mainly nurses (yes, with 6 teeth) and really only eats a decent amount of solid food during his mid-morning snack. I am going to start offering more finger foods over baby foods soon to see if he'll be more interested then. He also is not interested in dressing up for pictures anymore. The shot above was just a random one I took and then yesterday I thought I would take some "official 10 month pictures" in his Easter outfit. Photography sessions are definitely going to require 2 adults in the future as I hardly got any good shots. The first one below I thought was funny and the second one is the view I typically saw through my camera!

A post of firsts...

Wow, this has been a week of firsts. We had our first taste of Puffs and managed to get a few in the mouth (can use the pincer grasp just doesn't use it for food, only lint/grass/hair on floor!), a few on the face and few on the floor for the dog.

Then we went to our 9 month check-up on Wednesday and found out we have our first fever and ear infection. Hopefully it will be the one and only because I hate to see my baby sick and this child refuses to take medicine from eye dropper, syringe, straw or spoon. He is acting alot better so I guess the little he is ingesting is working. Auntie Em came by to see us the next day and he was already feeling better even though this picture he isn't smiling (the smiling picture was underexposed as I am experimenting with the manual setting on my camera).

Despite a long night Friday night (we learned the hard way that antihistamine does NOT make him drowsy), we went to Magnolia for a baby shower for Krista, my cousin Blake's wife. I always enjoy visiting with Krista and my other family plus I was looking forward to seeing her loot as they registered for alot of fun organic/earth-friendly items (see pic below for mommy-to-be and her fun baby stuff). Since Cole had been better during the day Thursday and Friday and he typically naps the entire hour drive to my Grandma's where the shower was being held, I figured we would go (he only napped an hour all day Friday). He got some much needed sleep and was in an ok mood but was pretty grouchy once his Tylenol wore off (he almost chewed a hole in my sister's shirt and his hand so we have teething on top of ear infection!). The last picture shows my little guy feeling alot better and trying to touch the thing mommy has pointed at him all the time:)

Easter weekend 2010

Even though we didn't participate in as many activities this year, Holy Week/Easter is still one of my favorite times of year. I have always been grateful for what Jesus did for us on Good Friday but to now have a son and think of sending him to save a bunch of sinners made it even more real and made me realize even more how thankful I am that God is God and I am not. And to be honest, the religious events are the number one reason I like this holiday and Cadbury eggs are the second reason:) We started Easter weekend with Russell going to work (yuck is all I am going to say because there are several non-Christian comments I have about bosses making people work on Easter) and Cole and I going to my parents. My mom put out alot of eggs for Cole to find filled with Puffs which, since I am a weird hippie mom, have not given my child yet. I was ok if he wanted a few but he wasn't really interested in eating them (but Baxter thought they were delicious!). Cole opened his presents from the Easter bunny (with assistance from Baxter!) and we ate a delicious dinner that my mom grilled. Sunday morning we woke up and went to church to celebrate the risen Lord with my family, took some pictures and then headed to Somerville for Easter number 2.

Once in Somerville, we had a delicious lunch and tried to take some pictures which is nearly impossible with two little ones....I had the picture below, another one of them both looking the other direction and the last one with them looking opposite directions! Then we got to open the gifts from the Easter bunny and had a small Easter egg hunt. Cousin Makayla came and shared eggs with Cole as he was more interested in the Easter grass than anything! And then some more posed pictures and finally two little faces looking at the camera! We were really busy but had a wonderful weekend. I hope everyone else had a wonderful and blessed Easter too!!

What a difference a week makes...

About a week ago I blogged how Cole was still army crawling but on Monday that all changed (please ignore my white manly looking legs in the background...)! Plus he is pulling up to standing now, mainly on by pulling on our legs. Ok, I have a curious crawler leaving the room so that is all for now...hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend!
